Competent Person Trainer Refresher

Competent Person refresher training shall be conducted at least every two years to stay current with the fall protection and rescue educational industry requirements or when new fall protection systems are used or installed or new fall hazards are encountered.

The Competent Person Refresher will demonstrate skill sets as a Competent Person and be made knowledgeable in the new regulation standards and equipment as a competent person. Also will be updated on any new teaching techniques and be required to teach a section to maintain trainer status. Students will expand their knowledge and ability to identify hazardous conditions, develop programs and make equipment selections to properly deal with fall hazards. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will receive a certificate acknowledging they have met or exceeded OSHA, ANSI and CSA requirements as a Competent Person.
Course participant will be required to climb the ladder or structure, while demonstrating 100% tie off. Fixed anchor point at least 8 feet above a flat and level surface. The anchor point must be accessible so the instructor can rig a Rescue Positioning Device (RPD). The RPD will be used to suspend course participants in their harnesses. The fixed anchor point must be rated for 5000 lb. Acceptable anchor points include a properly designed scaffold, structural beam at least 6′ in depth. A shop hoist rated for at least 5000 lb may be acceptable, but the power source must be locked and tagged before use. For other anchor points it is suggested to consult with Capital Safety prior to the class.
